This room is named after the village of Uffington, near the famous Uffington White Horse, a prehistoric hill figure from the Iron age or late Bronze age. 5 miles south of Faringdon and 5 miles west of Wantage, the hill forms part of the scarp of the Berkshire downs. It is, by far, the oldest of the white horse figures in Britain. On a clear day there are simply wonderful views, some say, up to 70 miles from here.
