July UpdateSummer is definitely here, the kitchen garden is in full bloom & our farm is full of young. Our newest addition & a complete new venture on our part is the arrival of two Dexter calves. Our bull has been named Brutas and the heifer is Claire. We have just hatched another 50 quails in our hatchery. They are a clever, flighty bunch and are keeping our staff very busy. In a couple of weeks they will be moved outside to the shade of the soft fruit orchard, where they will roam free. We continue to receive a fortnightly delivery of day old Cotswold Whites. We also have some beautiful Light Sussex cockerels & are now in the process of selecting the best bird to breed from. We currently have 11 Light Sussex birds in the incubator. This bird is a wonderful table bird and we plan to develop it as our primary table bird. Further plans for our chicken brood include the introduction of Black Rocks. Our pigs are an excitable bunch & are always happy to welcome visitors to their pen. We presently have large blacks, Tamworth, British Saddlebacks & Berkshire pigs. In July we are expecting 2 new additions, the Oxford Sandy & Black. Our first pig is also due to table this month. We'll keep you posted on the transition from our "10 Mile" breakfast to our all new "Fallowfields Farm Breakfast"! The Aylesbury Duck are doing fantastically and are happily co-habiting with the geese. They serve as the official boisterous welcoming party to anyone arriving to Fallowfields via our lower car park. |
