1940′s Technology meets 2012′s – Avro Vulcan XH558 with BMW’s Golden Car

by Fallowfields on June 27, 2012

My beautiful middle daughter Olivia is working with BMW account as part of their sponsorship of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. She sent me this photo from RAF Waddington recently of the stunning “Spirit of Great   Britain” as this Vulcan is known.

The golden BMW and Avro Vulcan XH558 meet at RAF Waddington

XH558 was photographed with BMW’s gorgeous looking gold BMW. BMW’s golden car is touring the UK at thhe moment and Avro Vulcan XH558 is recovering after the recent replacement of two of her engines following a fire.

Some readers of this blog will know I flew this particular aeroplane at what was then RAF Finningley, now known as Robin Hood Airport. She was the very first Vulcan in my log book. Sadly, my time in the Vulcan was not a particularly happy one despite her being the most beautiful aeroplane in the world. We were restricted to flying once a week only, resulting in death defying boredom as we sat in the crew room the other four days playing Uckers!

Sorry to upset you but I think you find 558 is still in the hangar at Robin Hood, I think you will find that is XM607 famous for the missions during the Falklands.
