News from around the hospitality sector.

Congratulations – The Cornish Cheese Company has taken the crown and become World Champion at this year’s British Cheese Awards

In London, there has been a rush of bookings in April around the date of the Royal Wedding – wish they were getting married in Kingston Bagpuize church!

Customers are beginning to return to the full-service restaurant sector [like us], or at least the rate of decline is slowing and even stabilising. Good news.

Love this – a customer is sueing a restaurant in the US for not teaching him how to eat an artichoke – he ate the whole thing whole and had to be hospitalised. Writing instructions for next year’s menu now!

I have always loved Young’s beer and their hotel division is showing increased profits on last year.

The duty on strong beers [those above about 7.5 ABV] is to be raised around autumn 2010. Duty on beers with an ABV of less than 2.8% [is there such a beer worth drinking?] are to be reduced.

Sadly, that icon of my mispent youth, Balls Brothers has gone into administration. I used to Bobsled with David Balls – hi David if you are reading this. Good luck.

I know I am not 3 Michelin stars but wouldn’t you just love to be able to pay the £7000 that the Lanesborough is charging for a nine course taster menu?  You can buy one of Heston’s Christmas puddings for a mere £70 on eBay! Am I in the wrong job?

Hats off to Mariott Hotels for using modern technology to provide podcasts to motivate their staff – subjects include havng a vision for life [both business and for leisure].
