My all time favourite cocktail is the Negroni. A very simple cocktail, carrying only three ingredients….but oh….the complexity of flavours. Campari, Sweet Vermouth and Gin. The Campari does somthing to the Sweet Vermouth [not a drink I care for on its own] and the Gin does something indefinable to the Campari. And the combination does something for me…Oh bliss!!
The story goes the Count Negroni, a bit of a Milano bar fly by all accounts, spending much of his time drinking the then “all the rage” Americano cocktail. After some time spent in America and then in England where he discovers thepleasures of Gin, the Count returns to his beloved Milan. One day feeling the need for something with a bit more teeth, he orders an Americano with the addition of Gin. Soon, everybody is wanting their Americano the “Negroni” way…….and the Negroni was borne!
What Gin should you use? Gordons is OK, Plymouth is pretty good and for me Tanqueray is best – but that is just my opinion. Try it with Bombay or Hendricks if you prefer…it matters not.
Do tell me…what is your favourite cocktail?

A Lynchburg Lemonade is one of my favourites.
Mmmmm, I am very keen on "sours". I know JD is very popular but Makers Mark for me has a vewy distinctive taste. Wonder what the Lynchburg would be like using MM!
So many favourites – so little time…… but a Bloody Mary before a meal is great. A really well-made Martini with Tanqueray 10 was hard to fault recently. Even enjoyed ice-cold strong Cuba Libres in 30º last month, I’m a little ashamed to admit.
We made Martinis at our last Cocktail master class. Benjamin makes a Martini to die for.
My favourite cocktail is without a doubt the Mojito. I can drink them all night and providing they are made with good tequila, I never get a hangover! Refreshing, cooling and delicious
A Gin Martini. They make a really good one in New York.
Fat Frog – Blue WKD – Smirnoff Ice and a Reef – green and tropical with the same amount of suger as a bag of Haribo!
Pina Colada!
A nice Bloody Mary with horseradish please.
Mine’s a margarita (sp?). Makes those taste buds tingle!
I lost the World Championship Martini drinking contest in Lake Placid, NY State, many years ago. Couldn’t drink a Martini for over 25 years!
Can you wait until Easter Cathy?
Agreed – it is the only way I will drink tequila too!
I think you have hit on the most popular cocktail these days. Not one for me though.
Sounds like a sweet tooth there Hannah
